Biography

"I was first introduced to programming in Pascal at the age of 11. I was instantly captivated."
-Chad Moore

The creator of chadfix.com, Chad Moore, is both a full-time software engineer and a part-time engineering student.

The resume of Chad Moore is available, as a Word document, here.

Experience

Chad Moore landed his first position in the IT industry as a Technician C at Union Switch & Signal, Pittsburgh, PA. He was later promoted, skipping two levels, to an Engineer B where he gained most of his experience.

At Union Switch & Signal, he developed and maintained two-tier distributed systems in C and C++ on Linux platforms. Development was done entirely in vi and projects were built using GCC and Makefiles.

Education

Originally attending ITT Technical Institute, Chad Moore earned his Associate in Specialized Technology Degree with a concentration in software applications and programming. Even before graduation, he transferred some credits and began attending Robert Morris University in Moon Township, PA, to pursue a B.S. in Software Engineering.

On January 2, 2009, Chad Moore had relocated to Walnut Creek, CA to seek out better engineering opportunities. As of December, 2008, he was accepted by California State University but failed to complete the registration process in time for the winter quarter. The process has been reinitiated for the upcoming quarter.

Projects

Note that projects already mentioned on my resume will not be revisited here.

Currently, Chad Moore is attempting to build a Linux system completely from source code.

Chad Moore developed a simple Java applet that enables the users to explore the Mandelbrot Set. More information is available here.

Recently, he has been developing chadfix.com in his spare time. Without any prior experience in web design or development, he has used server-side includes and a number of original Perl scripts to manage the site content. All of the content found at chadfix.com is 100% original.

While attending Robert Morris University, Chad Moore and a colleague developed a public library inventory tracking system in Java for a team project assignment. The application featured a Swing GUI and a MySQL back-end.

While attending ITT Technical Institute, Chad Moore developed XProductivity, an optimization application for Windows XP desktops. The application was written in Visual Basic .NET, as a capstone project, and manipulated a handful of registry values to speed up the user's environment.

In high school, Chad Moore entered a mail-in software design contest held by Gannon University, in Erie, PA. On May 10, 1999, he was awarded the Grand Prize for his scientific calculator submission. The calculator was developed with Visual Basic 4.0 and featured numeric base conversions and basic trigonometric functionality.

In 1997, Chad Moore contributed an ANSI.SYS-independant, ANSI-escape-sequence interpreter written in Pascal to the SourceWare Archival Group, an open-source collection of code snippets. The library was a crude implementation of a finite state machine and was somewhat object-oriented. The library is still available, here.

Skill Set

Chad Moore has had, at least some, direct exposure to each of the following skills, technologies, or software.

Readings

The following books have directly contributed to his success in software development and represent the knowledge that differentiates Chad Moore from other engineers with similar years of experience.

"These are the most valuable books on my bookshelves to date."

Other Interests and Activities

In his spare time, Chad Moore frequently visits the cplusplus.com forums to help troubleshoot C++ snippets.

He also enjoys playing 9-ball, a popular billiards game.
